Before you read this article, please read this article by my friend, Jonathan. As Jonathan pointed out, if we support abortion, that puts us at odds with God’s Word: “Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine” (Ezekiel 18:4). You may say, But I don’t support abortion! Ah, but depending on how you voted in this election, that could be the case. There are those who are pro-life, and those who are pro-choice. It’s an issue that deeply divides our country. Now, you may be asking, What’s wrong with that, the right to choose? If you truly believe that every living thing belongs to God, then it’s not our choice what to do with human life! The Bible says: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:13-16). Life is to be protected, it’s God’s will! Whenever we vote for someone, we stand with their beliefs, whether good or bad. God will hold us accountable for that, because as the righteousness of God (See 2 Corinthians 5:21), we are told not to walk in the way of the ungodly: “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2). Are we putting God and His word first when we stand with unrighteousness? No, so we have to repent of any choices we make to stand with any policies (Democratic or Republican) that go against God’s Word! Let me be clear: I believe there are many godly people in government, and that’s something we can thank God for! I am not here to tear down one party over another, but we must look at the facts. As Christians, if we go against God’s Word, regardless of who or what we support, we must own up to the consequences! Now that the choice has been made, we must be obedient to this: “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4). Pray sincerely and stand with our leaders – whether you voted for them or not – just be aware that making our voices heard over the chatter and confusion of the unrighteous is our responsibility! Righteousness is what exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34). |
