PAT ROBERTSON: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT |
|
|
|
Let's set the record straight about recent comments made by Pat Robertson after the earthquake in Haiti. I came out yesterday and expressed regret that he blamed the earthquake on the island's "pact with the devil". However, if you read his actual statement, he did NOT say they deserved the earthquake. His statement reads:
PAT ROBERTSON: And, you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, "We will serve you if you will get us free from the French." True story. And so, the devil said, "OK, it's a deal."
And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It's cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti; on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etcetera. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy, I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now, we're helping the suffering people, and the suffering is unimaginable.
He made a very important distinction: The island is divided between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The nation of Haiti has a history of unspeakable tragedy, while the DR remains prosperous. The point that was made is simple: When you allow evil to have influence, you will experience the result of that. Just as you will experience blessing, protection and prosperity when seeking God -- as seen in the DR. Pat Robertson NEVER said the Haitian people deserved this earthquake. He was drawing a line between what can happen as a result of what we seek after. Above all, he reminds us that we must continue to pray for the Lord to capture the hearts of the Haitians.
God reminds us of the same: "Choose this day who you will serve" (Joshua 24:15) and to choose life! (Deuteronomy 30:19) |

What Are We Really Looking For? |

After seeing several articles about achieving more "political diversity", a thought occurred to me: Doesn't this all seem a bit backwards? The mainstream media would love for us to believe that the entire country is lined up in perfect harmony, crying for the Republican party to step away from "staunch conservatism". That our current course will provide all the answers. But, the truth is, this is NOT a political issue (regardless of which side of the aisle you sit on) -- it's a HEART issue!
Honestly, let's think for a minute: Where does the majority of the country REALLY want shared values to lead us as a nation? When folks like Bill Maher start seeing there's a problem with our President being so focused on celebrity status, instead of actually leading the country, that ought to tell us something! (I would say the same thing if a Republican President was at the center of a media circus! We need leadership, not a pretty mouthpiece!)
To me, as Christians, these issues should not be simply Republican or Democratic issues, there's something much bigger at work here, and that is standing up for the truth of God's Word! When we get down to it, that's the only thing that will survive for all time (see Matthew 24:35). The direction of our country should NOT be determined by the views and values of the current party "in power". Whether you are a conservative, a moderate, or a liberal thinker with your political views, can't we agree that we want to stand up for freedom to preserve it? The only way we will truly achieve this is to stand up and put God and His Word back in it's rightful place of the most importance in our nation! The Bible makes a pretty clear promise:

When I first created this site, I wanted to be able to share my thoughts and opinions on different issues, and offer encouragement, and maybe even some humor at the same time. I definitely haven't been able to use the site the way I have wanted to, but I want that to change. I know this may sound kind of like a cliche, but I really do want to get some feedback on what would be cool to see here. Even though I am doing the site for me, if I'm not really offering anything of value, then there's not much use trying to make this work. The world already has way too many people who THINK they have something to say, but they just end up full of hot air! I think that's one of the main reasons why Paul wrote in the Bible that if he didn't have true love, then whatever else he did really didn't matter, and was just noise! It's in 1 Corinthians 13 -- check it out!
So, let me hear from you!

We must Stand For Righteousness |

Before you read this article, please read this article by my friend, Jonathan.
As Jonathan pointed out, if we support abortion, that puts us at odds with God’s Word:
“Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine” (Ezekiel 18:4).
You may say, But I don’t support abortion! Ah, but depending on how you voted in this election, that could be the case. There are those who are pro-life, and those who are pro-choice. It’s an issue that deeply divides our country. Now, you may be asking, What’s wrong with that, the right to choose? If you truly believe that every living thing belongs to God, then it’s not our choice what to do with human life!
The Bible says:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:13-16).
Life is to be protected, it’s God’s will! Whenever we vote for someone, we stand with their beliefs, whether good or bad. God will hold us accountable for that, because as the righteousness of God (See 2 Corinthians 5:21), we are told not to walk in the way of the ungodly:
“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).
